How can we use place in film?

How does Shane Meadows use place and non-place in This Is England to create the temporal context of the story. How does the use of place further the narrative of the film?
Is this England? Think about the characters/the people in this film. Who is in your England
How different is 21st Century Britain to the England of 1983 portrayed in This Is England?
Think about being a woman in 1983. What were young women dealing with in 1983 that is different from today, if anything? How have gender differences been challenged since 1983?
Think about the way that non-places (places of transience and ‘movement through’) can be rendered ‘places’ by the way they are used. How can this be threatening to everyday life?
